- By amadorjose
🌸Among blooming valleys, Welsh history, and Patagonian mountains
In the northwestern tip of Chubut, just 25 km from Esquel and at the foot of the majestic Andes Mountains, lies Trevelin, a charming town where Welsh tradition merges with the most vibrant landscapes of Patagonia.
Its name means “mill town” in Welsh, and its history dates back to the late 19th century, when Welsh immigrants settled in the valley to cultivate the land and preserve their language and customs. Today, Trevelin is synonymous with tranquility, Welsh tea, blooming gardens, and privileged access to some of the most spectacular landscapes in the region.
🌄 Why visit Trevelin?
Excursions to Los Alerces National Park: Just a few kilometers from town lies one of the most beautiful and biodiverse parks in Argentina, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Turquoise lakes, ancient forests, and trails for all levels invite you to experience nature to the fullest.
Living Welsh culture: Tea houses, historic chapels, and museums tell the story of the Welsh pioneers. In October, the gardens burst into color with the Tulip Festival, one of the most photographed events in southern Argentina.
Nature and adventure tourism: From horseback riding and fly fishing in the Río Grande to mountain biking, Trevelin is an ideal starting point to enjoy outdoor activities in a well-preserved and accessible environment.
